What You Should be Reading- Last Days of American Crime
From time to time friends and acquaintances ask me what graphic novels they should be reading but haven’t heard about. I always throw out the classics; Watchmen, Dark Knight, Kingdom Come and the newer stuff; Fables, The Walking Dead, Y: the Last Man, 100 Bullets, etc. I rarely have a current selection that is easy for a new reader to get into and doesn’t have over eight volumes already on the shelf though. Michigan State University Comics Forum 2011
Each year Michigan State University hosts a Comics Forum that brings together creators, academics, and fans. It also presents a wonderful opportunity to meet comic books artists, writers, and scholars and to learn more about the field. This year Nate Powell, author of Edible Secrets, will give the keynote address. The forum will take place on January 21st and 22nd. If you are anywhere near East Lansing, Michigan I would strongly urge you to attend. It promises to be a fun and informative time.
